ASSURE is a support group for families and friends who have lost a loved one to suicide.  The group acknowledges that suicide survivors are also victims who must face a lifetime of coping with the pain and trauma associated with their loss.
ASSURE has a central belief that the healing from the tragedy of suicide can best be offered in a positive, safe and supportive atmosphere combined with other survivors who share similar experiences.

IS ASSURE A THERAPY GROUP?
Meeting and talking with other survivors can be considered therapeutic, yet ASSURE provides no professional counseling or therapy.  ASSURE is conducted in confidence by other survivors who are present to share the emotion, guidance and healing aspects of their loss.  This creates a vast network of survivors who are intertwined to create a net of support.  Furthermore, mental health professionals are in attendance to help facilitate while also assisting the group and individuals during the meeting time.

DOES EVERYONE HAVE TO PARTICIPATE?
Many participants have found they benefit simply by attending an ASSURE meeting.  There is no pressure to talk or participate until a person is ready to do so.  We ask only that the people identify themselves so that the group can include them.

IS THERE A FEE FOR THE SUPPORT GROUP?
ASSURE is supported by the Mental Health Association of Volusia/Flagler Counties, therefore, there is no cost to participate.  However, ASSURE provides resources such as books, videotapes and other resources on suicide and the grief process to all participants.  Therefore, private donations are accepted to help maintain these valuable resources.
